I'm hopeful that Viola and Bayonetta will get along well: she's very much striking me as a cooler, female Luka, and I think that's a great starting point for some memorable and entertaining character interactions.Ĭlick to shrink.Great post. Luka and Cereza were great and showed two different sides of her, and Loki (and pretty much everyone else in 2 sans Jeanne) was a character assassination trainwreck. Bayonetta is a character who lives-and-dies based on her interactions with other characters. Most importantly, I'm excited to see her interactions with Bayonetta throughout the game. And she appears to be in Witch Time when she's defending herself against Jeanne. But her sword also allows her to use Cheshire in the same way that witches use demons (using the Umbran sigil, no less). She doesn't have full Umbran powers (as evidence by her use of a grappling hook, and her throwing her sword to get back up the falling rocks, and her clumsy landing). She's very much striking me as a cooler, female Luka, and I think that's a great starting point for some memorable and entertaining character moments. (I'm also not sure I want Bayonetta x Luka to be canon, but at least we're dealing with a multiverse scenario, so it's just one outcome of many possibilities!) Given that she's not a witch, it seems more likely that her universe's Bayonetta might have been her godmother and gifted her the sword. Bayonetta? If so, it seems likely that her daughter would be a witch as well. If she is Luka's daughter, then that opens up the question of who the mom is. She's not a witch, but her sword is clearly of Umbran origin and gives her access to some of their magic. I think my working hypothesis is that she's likely Luka's daughter from an alternate timeline, traveling across the Bayo-multiverse to find help for her timeline or defeat the antagonist. And to not leave out the obvious thing that we already knew: she has the alphaverse Bayonetta's Cheshire attached to her sword. She leaves weird dimensional shards (?) in her wake when she runs, in the same way that Bayonetta leaves magical butterflies.Jeanne also seems to be part of her story, but it seems more likely that they just have a "working" relationship in the story. She seems to have some sort of personal connection to Luka. She doesn't have full Umbran powers (as evidence by her use of a grappling hook, her throwing her sword to get back up the falling rocks, and her clumsy landing).Story-wise, she seems to be filling a similar role to Luka or Loki, as Bayonetta's comedically-tinged traveling companion.Viola's definitely an intriguing character.
